BioShock Infinite’s Ending Nothing You’ve Experienced in a Game Before, According to Ken Levine

December 19, 2012 by Alex Co

Ken Levine, head of Irrational Games, reveals that BioShock Infinite’s Ending is nothing gamers have experienced before.

BioShock 1 was certainly one of the better games when it comes to narrative. Not only was the story superb, but even its ending came out of nowhere to leave gamers with their jaws on the floor.

But it seems Irrational Games has something even better planned for BioShock Infinite's conclusion. In a recent interview with Outside Xbox (via GameTrailers), Irrational Games boss Ken Levine reveals that BioShock Infinite's ending is "nothing you've actually experienced in a video game before."

The end of the game, I can't tell whether people will like it or not like it. I can say it's something we're incredibly proud of. It's like nothing you've actually experienced in a video game before. It's unique and quite particular to this world, these characters and this franchise.

Without going into spoilers for BioShock 1's ending, since there might be two or three of you that still hasn't finished it yet, it was certainly a break from the mold of games having its protagonists lined up and ready to go for future sequels. While the latter part of the game dragged on far more than it should, the narrative itself was what glued it all together, in my opinion.

Normally, comments like these are spewed off by every PR person or developer who wishes to be noticed. But if there's a studio that can pull it off, I'd wager it would be Ken Levine and Irrational. I mean, they've proved they can do it not only with BioShock 1, but with System Shock, too, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.

What sort of twists and turns are you excepting for BioShock Infinite? Do you think it can even match "the would you kindly" revelation in BioShock 1?

BioShock Infinite is set for a March 2013 release for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
