Mass Effect Trilogy Launch Trailer Now Out, Focuses on Commander Shepard

December 5, 2012 by Alex Co

BioWare’s Mass Effect Trilogy launch trailer is really determined to make you a believer that Commander Shepard is a hero.

While Xbox 360 and PC gamers were able to buy the Mass Effect Trilogy on November 6, the compilation's PS3 version is set to hit stores today and there's a new launch trailer to commemorate it.

Of course, this is a bigger deal for PS3 users as this is the first time the system will have access to the game that started it all and that's Mass Effect 1. Previously, PS3 players had to settle for an interactive comic that showed the choices players can take in ME1 that will then carry over to Mass Effect 2. Now, the full game is available on the PS3 both as part of the Mass Effect Trilogy or as a standalone game on the PSN as a digital download.

The launch trailer itself is quite common enough. It focuses on Commander Shepard, which is a given since he is the franchise's face. While we're shown how special Shepard is, Martin Sheen a.k.a. The Illusive Man is narrating the whole piece. Give it a watch to see if it manages to give you goosebumps like the first time Mass Effect was unveiled publicly.

For those curious, the PlayStation 3 version of Mass Effect Trilogy will have the original Mass Effect with Bring Down the Sky integrated into the game, both on-disc and on the PSN download. Mass Effect 2 will still have the same DLC on-disc that it was originally shipped with: Cerberus Network; Kasumi; Overlord; and Lair of the Shadow Broker. Finally, Mass Effect 3 will also be exactly as it originally shipped.

If you're one of the few people who have yet to experience Mass Effect, the ME Trilogy is a steal at $59.99 since each game is a rather hefty RPG on its own. Also, regardless of how you feel about ME3's endings, all three Mass Effect games are a gem of a game that RPG and action fans shouldn't miss.

Any PS3 gamers going to get this just for ME1? Come to think of it, are there any players this gen that has yet to play any of the Mass Effect games? For those who've already played all three, which one is your favorite? I'm particularly fond of ME2 since it was the perfect blend of RPG and action elements without having a conclusion that left me scratching my head. This, of course, is just my opinion. So which one out of the three do you prefer?
