High Flying Action-Adventure ‘Next Up Hero’ Announced

July 11, 2017 by Katrina Filippidis

Fight to die, die to fight.

Aspyr Media and Digital Continue have joined forces to deliver Next Up Hero, an isometric arcade battle game where players take turns fighting, and eventually, dying. The objective is to work together to vanquish increasingly difficult monsters with a varied suite of weapons, including boomerangs, bongo drums and rocket launchers.

Interestingly, when players do die they leave behind an ‘Echo’ of their hero. This functions like a ghost AI which other players can resurrect to help them in subsequent battles, a bit like the Army of the Dead in The Lord of the Rings. Currently in development, Next Up Hero is being shaped by community feedback; developer Digital Continue notes it will incorporate ideas to improve modes, weapons, attacks and characters further prior to the game’s release. An exclusive closed-beta version just launched at RTX Austin.

Next Up Hero is expected to release sometime in 2018 for Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.
