According to an announcement from Microsoft, 750,000 Xbox 360 consoles were sold in the United States last week. Since this period included Black Friday, perhaps you aren't shocked and awed by that figure, especially since far more 360s were sold during the same week last year. But remember that Nintendo has just launched a brand new console that only managed to shift 400,000 in its first week (along with 300,000 original Wiis), and you might be a little more impressed.
Of course, there are other things to consider before we can just assert that the Xbox 360 is better than the Wii U on the basis of these sales figures. For one thing, the Xbox 360 can be picked up for a lot cheaper than the brand-new Wii U, and that will have been especially true with Black Friday discounts. And far more people would probably have bought a Wii U in launch week if they could find one. While it remains to be seen whether the console will face such high demand when it launches in the U.K. this Friday, the Wii U is sold out almost everywhere in the U.S.
But with a 50% increase in Xbox Live Gold subscription card sales, and strong sales for Halo 4, it can't be denied that even this late in its life, the 360 is still going strong.
