ZombiU Multiplayer Explained

November 28, 2012 by Jordan Erica Webber

Choose to play as a survivor or as King of Zombies

Ubisoft has released the fourth episode of its series on ZombiU, “In The Eye of ZombiU”. This episode focuses on the local multiplayer aspect of the game, which makes use of the asymmetric capabilities of the GamePad versus a regular controller. Members of the team say that they always wanted to create asymmetric multiplayer for the game, which is one of the things that drew them to the Wii U in the first place.

In the local multiplayer for ZombiU, one player gets to play a fairly standard FPS game, performing many of the same actions as they would in the single player game. But the other, who plays with the GamePad, gets to play a completely different kind of game. The GamePad player has the role of”King of Zombies”, and uses the touchscreen controller to play a game of strategy. The King of Zombies must spend resources, bring zombies into the world, and place them strategically so as to have the best chance of wiping out the survivor.

The multiplayer comes in three flavours: a capture the flag scenario, a survival mode (in which the survivor tries to, well, survive for as long as possible), and something the team calls “killing box” (which is all about numbers, and exactly how many undead the survivor can dispatch). The survivor can win rewards from the in-game audience for doing well.

ZombiU is a Wii U launch title, so while it's already out in the U.S., it won't arrive until Friday in the U.K. Will this convince you to pick up a copy, if you haven't already?
