Nintendo Switch Online Gets Pushed Back To 2018

June 2, 2017 by Katrina Filippidis

Free for a little while longer.

Originally scheduled for a fall 2017 release window, the Nintendo Switch online service has been delayed until next year, it has emerged. Nintendo made the announcement via their website, stating that the service will be free for Nintendo Account holders until the paid service officially launches. Online play is also free for those who aren’t subscribed, at least until 2018. Here are the pricing models, which come in much cheaper when compared with PlayStation Plus (A 12 month PlayStation subscription currently costs $59.99 USD). Depending on the system’s popularity, which still seems to be skyrocketing, the subscription fee will likely increase just like the recent price hike for PlayStation Plus.

As Gameranx previously reported, Nintendo is including a fee for their online service as a way to support new experiences and ensure the online experience is more robust. Nintendo Switch Online is also similar to PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live in that it will support voice chat, adding friends, give players the ability to share screenshots to social media and beyond, but brings something a little different with its Classic Game Selection.
