Square Enix Shifts Final Fantasy VII Remake Development to an Internal Team

Recently, numerous job listings were spotted on Square Enix‘s official website, recruiting staff as much as possible for the development of Final Fantasy VII Remake.

The newly appointed Project Lead Naoki Hamaguchi was featured in a livestream recently, translated via Gematsu, where he discussed the reason behind the urgent recruitment currently being done by Square Enix. He said that the studio wants to shift Final Fantasy VII Remake’s development from a third-party to an internal team.

The information is already available online, but I’ve taken charge on the development side for Final Fantasy VII Remake. As for the whole story, (it’s a sensitive topic, but) until now, development was moving forward with external co-operation, but the company has decided to shift to an internal setup, including mass production and quality, because we want to control everything, including quality, on a stable schedule. (I won’t be leaving Mobius Final Fantasy.)

Final Fantasy VII Remake still doesn’t have a set release date, but it is expected to launch within a couple of years, exclusively on the PS4. What do you think of Square Enix shifting the game’s development to an internal team?
