Overwatch Director Further Discusses Nintendo Switch Platform Release Possibility

April 8, 2017 by Dennis Patrick

Could we see Overwatch release on the Nintendo Switch?

Ever since the Nintendo Switch released, gamers have started to question developers and publishers as to if the console will also receive some of the more popular third-party video game titles that are currently available on the market.

For instance, we recently covered the subject of Overwatch on the Nintendo Switch. In the past report, Overwatch director, Jeff Kaplan, stated that getting Overwatch on the Switch would be very challenging, though he wouldn’t fully rule it out just yet.

Today, the famed game director once again brought up the subject through an interview with Express. It’s here that Jeff Kaplan further discusses some of the issues that the development studio may have when it comes to developing the video game for the Nintendo Switch.

For starters, Blizzard crafted Overwatch with a targeted minimum specifications and that would mean revisiting performance when attempting to get the title to run properly on the platform. Likewise, it would create a challenge for developers in simply maintaining another ecosystem as the development team prides themselves on being able to patch simultaneously.

“I think the problem is, we’ve really targeted our min spec in a way that we would have to revisit performance and how to get on that platform.”

“And also, it’s already challenging right now maintaining three platforms and patching simultaneously, which is something that we’ve finally been able to achieve.”

That doesn’t mean the title has been ruled out completely. Kaplan did go on to say that because the video game is not on a platform at the given moment doesn’t mean that the developers won’t reconsider their decision in the future.
