Black Ops 2 “Carrier” and “Meltdown” Multiplayer Map Images Outed

October 25, 2012 by Alex Co

Here’s your first look at Black Ops 2’s Carrier and Meltdown multiplayer maps.

There hasn't been a dearth of info when it comes to Black Ops 2's multiplayer. On the contrary, we almost know everything there is worth knowing. However, when something new comes along, it doesn't hurt to look at that, no?

In this case, this "something" new is our first look at two of Black Ops 2's multiplayer maps. Both the "Carrier" and "Meltdown" maps came from a YouTube livestream that turned out to be a snaffu from Treyarch's part. Needless to say, these maps weren't ready to be shown off just yet.

Fortunately for us, Twitter user @ItsRahhh tweeted pics from the livestream before it eventually got yanked. While the actual video isn't available, we do have a set of screenshots that show off the maps a bit (via CharlieIntel)

First up, here's our first look at Carrier.

Based on the two screens above, it seems this map is suited for snipers with its wide-open spaces and covers that are few and far between. Given the name and from what we see, Carrier is set on an aircraft carrier on sea. If so, wouldn't it be awesome if the stage itself rocked back and forth in tune with the waves? Odds are, that isn't happening, but one can dream, no?

Next up, we have our first look at Meltdown. Compared to Carrier, Meltdown is a bit more cramped and offers strategic locations for those looking to gain a vertical advantage on their enemies. It's either that, or those corners could be a camper's paradise.

Take a look for yourself.

Meltdown is set in a nuclear facility in the Balochistan Cliffs in Pakistan and that explains the nuclear reactors you can see in the screens.

For the rest of the screens and even a look at a menu showing what League Play looks like after a match, just click here.

Yes, I know. Your usual Call of Duty hater will take one look at these screens and say, it looks the same as any other map from any other Call of Duty game. I have to admit, they do have a point. But what might separate Black Ops 2 from its predecessors is the amount of revisions and tweaks Treyarch is putting into it.

Will that shakeup work and reinvigorate the franchise? We won't know for sure until the game ships on November 13 for current-gen platforms and on November 18 for the Wii U.
