Assassin’s Creed 3: Desmond’s Backstory Reveals His Father

October 19, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

Desmond’s father is revealed in a new Assassin’s Creed 3 video.

Assassin's Creed 3

Ubisoft has uploaded a new video of Assassin’s Creed 3 ahead of the game’s release next month. The new video, titled “Desmond”, focuses on the game’s protagonist Desmond Miles and his role throughout the Assassin’s Creed series.

The video gives us some backstory on Desmond and gets us up to speed with the events of the previous Assassin’s Creed titles, including AC1, AC2, Brotherhood, and Revelations. The video is narrated by Desmond’s father, whom—unless I’m mistaken—we learn about for the first time ever.

“This boy had no ambition. No direction. No plans for the future,” he says. “What he did have was a heritage. One he chose to deny. It nearly cost him his life.”

The narrator then goes on to tell us how Desmond was captured and imprisoned by the not-so-nice people of Abstergo Industries for the purpose of harvesting his genetic memory to help them find something. Having escaped from their facility with the aid of the Assassins, Desmond now finds himself on the front lines against the modern day Templars as he continues to learn about his past and true heritage, all the while learning and mastering the abilities of his ancestors like Altaïr, Ezio, and Assassin’s Creed 3’s Connor.

Assassin’s Creed 3 is set for release on October 30 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The PC and Wii U versions are slated for release later in November.
