Disney is obviously serious about making Wreck-It Ralph a super star. The feature length, CGI animated movie from which the character stems from finally hits the big screens in November, but the many months leading up has seen a flurry of ads in major cities, plus bite sized games for the web and iOS.
An interactive adaptation of what many are calling the Who Framed Roger Rabbit of video games was a given, so many were surprised to hear that the only full-on take would be happening on the Wii, DS, and 3DS. What about those with an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3?
He's still headed to those consoles, but in the form of a guest star in someone else’s game. Ralph will be part of the gang in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, due November 18, and which is the sequel to surprise hit Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing from two years ago. It's another mascot racer, except the vehicles can now transform into other forms, to handle different types of terrain.
It Sonic and a bunch of Sega personalities, and once again, Disney's brand new leading man. According to a press release that was republished by Gaming Age:
SEGA is pleased to release brand-new screen shots from the upcoming game Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed! As previously announced, SEGA and Disney collaborated to feature the star of the upcoming animated film, Wreck-It Ralph in the game. Players can choose to get behind the wheel as Wreck-It Ralph in his unique transformable vehicle and race across land, air and water against other All-Stars. Also look out for Sonic the Hedgehog’s appearance in the film when it hits theaters November 2nd!
Anyone who has seen any of the Wreck-It Ralph ads knows already that Sonic apparently plays a significant role in the movie, so Sega is clearly hoping to leverage all the attention.
However, it also remains to be seen if the IP holders of Q-Bert, who also seems to be a decent part of the action, will also try to get a piece of the action as well. Here are some additional screens:
