League of Legends Gets a Halloween Update, Features New Character

October 18, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

Elise the Spider Queen is joining the ranks of the League of Legends.

Elise

League of Legends isn’t one to get left out of this year’s Halloween celebrations, and has announced plans to release a Halloween-themed update with a new environment, some themed skins, and an all new champion for players to, well, play with.

The new character, Elise the Spider Queen, is being added into the game along with something called The Shadow Isles. It isn’t yet clear if The Shadow Isles is an all new map or simply a themed version of one of the preexisting maps.

Players interested in participating in the celebrations can “swear allegiance” to the Shadow Isles by donning one of the new skins, which are available to Karthus, Mordekaiser, Hecarim, Yorick, and Evelynn. In addition to player skins, new ward skins and icons are also being added into the in-game store.

According to Riot Games, Elise can switch between human and spider forms, each with its own special abilities and passives. Details of the character can be found here.

“Like all transform champions, successfully playing Elise involves balancing two distinct kits. More than any of her counterparts, however, the Spider Queen’s two forms embody distinct, but complimentary roles. Unlike Jayce, whose kit emphasizes flowing smoothly between ranged and melee skillsets, or Nidalee, who uses her cougar mobility to split push and create distance for her long ranged attacks, Elise’s two ability sets separate definitively into mage and assassin roles.”

The update will be available on October 31.
