gamingexcellence.com review
Toy Story 3 isn’t perfect, with some loose controls and a dull plotline to follow, seemingly more for the convention of having a plot in these games than anything else. The Toy Box mode adds a whole lot to the game, however, propelling it far beyond what a typical tie-in game offers. That said, on its own merits, the game is still pretty good, and perfect for any fans of the series. Being able to run around and just do what they want at their own pace really makes the game great for a younger crowd. It’s fun, got a ton of content, and really redefines what a movie tie-in game can be.

The more of these you do, the more money you get to buy new toys, which unlock new missions. You can also find capsules which give you new costumes and building designs, which allow you to decorate the area as you see fit. The mode is very well-structured, and gives you new features and toys just as you start to get bored with the ones you have. Kids will be in their element here: we spent half an hour just chucking balls at small civilian toys’ heads, giggling away to ourselves.

Toy Story 3 is an example of when a license game is done right. The cooperative story mode is a nice touch, and the Toy Box mode is still fun despite it’s rather limited customization options, I just wish it’d have had a cooperative options like the other console versions do, as it’s less family or party friendly. Older players might be occasionally bored by how simple the game’s quests can be, but in general TS3 manages to be most everything your kids (or your own inner kid) wanted out of a Toy Story game

Overall Toy Story 3: The Video Game is an entertaining, if not particularly challenging, title. It is obviously aimed at the younger market, particularly the Wii version which apparently is simplified in places, but that doesn’t mean childish adults won’t enjoy the Toy Box Mode. While this game won’t give Super Mario Galaxy 2 a run for its money it is certainly an okay title that shows that tie-ins don’t need to be rubbish.
