Those who have a penchant for all things online fear not! The game allows you to participate in online battles, and they are an absolute joy. Trying to out-think another human opponent is so much fun, and when they fall for one of your traps the satisfaction is off the scale. Finding a ranked match was easy, and the online community seems to be thriving. Expect a tough challenge though, as some of the players are phenomenally good.

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 will instantly appeal to fans but there is certainly no reason why others shouldn’t have a look in. Playing a few rounds online will show elitist fighting fans just how skill based this fighting game can be, and for everyone else there is the forgiving AI, low ranking online players and friends to compete against. Either way there will certainly be competition for you to storm.

In conclusion, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja: Storm 2 is a very fun fighting game that contains some great animation which is clean and sharp. The star of the game are the over the top characters and flawless fighting system that gives gamers a break from title such as Tekken, Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat. Those who have never seen the series before may be a little disadvantaged because of their lack of back history but the developers have added enough story to let you into this universe. If you’re after a truly outrageous fighter that is fun than Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja: Storm 2 is that game!

The battle system in Storm 2 is the bread and butter of the game. The fighting mechanics may seem very simple at first, but the complexity of the game will become much more evident as you complete more missions. The basic controls consist of a strike attack for close combat; or a shuriken throw for a distance attack. You can rapidly press the strike attack in order to pull off a basic combo. However, once you start adding in chakra powers and team attacks that can contain up to two other characters for a super powerful attack, Storm 2’s fighting system can become a juggernaut of strategy.

Overall, Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 is totally worth seeking out, even if you’re not a big Naruto fan to begin with. It surprised me by its visual quality, and how much fun I had with the combat. The pacing isn’t always even, sometimes there’s a little too much story getting in the way of the action for me, but overall I think it’s a lot of fun. Definitely one of the bigger surprises for me this year, and I’m hoping that the inevitable sequel will keep this level of quality.

Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 is an almost perfect game for fans of the saga Kishimoto, and a title still interesting for anyone who never had to do with chakra, jutsu, kage, and so on.

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja: Storm 2 is one of the more gorgeous games I’ve seen in a long time. They’ve really captured the feeling of the cartoons, and playing the Adventure Mode — at least in the less tedious portions — feels like you’re playing inside an episode of the anime. The fighting system is surprisingly rich; I just wish they’d unlocked the full character roster from the start. No one wants to buy a fighting game, invite their friends over, and then realize they need to play hours of a story mode just to get their favorite characters. Still, this is a fun fighter, even if you don’t really care for the subject matter.

CyberConnect2 could have made another addition to the bargain bin that so many licensed media games are, but they put a lot of effort into Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 and tried a lot of new things. A lot of them worked, others didn’t, but it’s extremely impressive to see this kind of ambition both in a genre as worn as fighting games and in the subset of licensed media games, whose reputation precedes it most unfavorably. Ninja Storm 2 won’t win any game of the year awards and non-fans may not find the appeal of a lot of extra content, but it’s a thoughtfully designed and surprisingly well presented title.

When measuring up this game it depends very much on the angle you look at it from. As a fan that has also played other Naruto themed games on offer today for numerous consoles, then without question Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 is the best of them. If viewed from the perspective of a beat-em-up player then this would probably lack the depth others in the genre have and from the perspective of your average gamer…they’ll still be questioning why ninjas apparently wear such bright clothes and have yet to see the other end of puberty.

The story is full of incredible stupid clichés, the dialogue dubbing is just horrifying, and there’s not much that made me feel quite so embarrassed as my boss and a coworker walking in on my playing Naruto, in the middle of one of the titular character’s strange and tangential rants. Super awesome ninja he may be, but that boy needs to have his larynx removed. Nonetheless, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 is an adequate fighting title that Naruto fans – and likely only them – should pick up.
