Wrapped in an emotional journey of courage and friendship, Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom takes players on a majestic adventure as Tepeu, a cunning individual who must rely on his agility to triumph over increasing obstacles. What he lacks in might, his towering companion makes up for it with his colossal size and brawn. As players progress through the game’s lush environments, the Majin will continue to acquire additional abilities that will provide access to previously obstructed areas.

Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom Reviews xbox360
destructoid.com review
Despite a few issues with AI and animations, Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom is an absolutely superb effort from Game Republic. It remains charming and sweet without ever becoming cloying or twee, with a genuinely interesting story and a wonderful character in Teotl. The gameplay feels at once traditional and unique, and the overall experience is both remarkable and memorable. No other game released this year has quite so much heart as this.

I have no hesitation in saying that Majin & The Forsaken Kingdom is one of the most memorable, enjoyable games I’ve played this year. That’s no small praise. It’s a game about exploration and discovery that captures the spirit of some of the best games of its style, yet forges an identity of its own. It’s a beautiful slice of folklore that I’d encourage as many people as possible to experience.

Majin and the Forsaken kingdom is a game that will inevitably get glossed over this Christmas, brushed under the carpet by Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed and Gran Turismo. If you enjoy rich worlds, interesting stories and endearing characters, however, I implore you: don’t let this pass you by.

Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom is a polished and entertaining action adventure. While some gamers may see nods to previous titles in the genre (or to others not even out yet, like the upcoming The Last Guardian), overall it offers a unique form of puzzle-solving fun that’s all its own. For fans of games like Fable, Ico and the Oddworld series, it’s the perfect game to curl up on the couch with this holiday season.

Heading towards the summary, a few words about the presentation. Majin reminded me a lot of Folklore, one of my favorite games of this generation. The wonderful color palette is captivating and really easy on the eyes. I think Folklore may still have a slight visual edge overall, but Majin is gorgeous. I liked how Game Republic mixed mechanical themes with nature, and brightly lit, colorful areas with underground dark and dreary ones. The animations are very good too, as are the cutscenes. The visual experience is supported by an outstanding audio package as well.

So it may not have the gloss of a triple-A release, nor the marketing budget to accompany it. But you really should play this game. Overlook Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom and you risk missing out on a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Perhaps more importantly however, you also risk missing out on Teotl himself, one of gaming’s most endearingly loveable characters.

This is a comfortingly sturdy and oldfashioned adventure, as reliable and warm-hearted as the Majin himself. If you’ve been waiting all this time for a good Zelda-a-like on 360, you’ve finally found it.

Ultimately, the entire game could be voiced by Fran Drescher and Ray Romano and it would still rock. The beautiful settings, excellent puzzles and killer boss battles easily make up for the game’s few shortcomings. If you can get past the cover, you’ll find an adventure worth taking – one that might just be the sleeper hit of the year.

Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom may lack the polish required to elevate it to triple-A status but its sense of adventure and exploration remain strong. The journey of both characters and the relationship, in terms of gameplay and story, make this into a very compelling experience and one that shouldn’t be overlooked.

It all works nicely, and those 2D cutscenes are truly unforgettable. In the vein of games like Enslaved, Majin is not without issue, but I was able to look past the rough patches and enjoy the game for everything it does so, so right. While I may not look back at it much in the coming years, right here and now, Majin is easily one of favorites of 2010 easily worth the measly $40 it takes to lock down one of the best buddy/puzzle games I’ve played all year.

Simplistic combat and tedious backtracking don’t fully diminish the pleasures of this attractive and festive fable.

Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom tells a sad but clichéd tale with an endearing giant and his friend at the helm of it. This “puzzle platformer†won’t give you too much of a problem as the solutions are simple, but finding every collectible in the world will take quite a bit of effort. It’s not without frustrations, but journeying with the goofy monster is an adventure most people will get a kick out of.

With Enslaved and the forthcoming The Last Guardian, ‘buddy’ games are becoming fashionable, their setup offering both narrative and mechanical benefits to the designer of adventure videogames. Game Republic’s effort lacks polish and elegance, but, thanks to charm and the in-built strength of its setup, it is an experience worth partnering with.

Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom may not break any new ground in the action-adventure genre, but the fable behind the gameplay keeps the experience interesting from start to finish.

While Majin gets a recommendation, it’s a cautious one – you have to have the stomach for Cartoon Network voices, a preference for puzzles and exploration over combat, and the patience to double back on yourself. If you’ve got all that, then Majin will give you an extremely fair slice of entertainment.

Much more than a poor man’s Ico, the low tech presentation hides a consistently charming and well constructed puzzle adventure.

Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom thrives on the power of clever puzzles and the enjoyable simplicity of combat. Awkward moments of backtracking and horrible voice-acting are nearly forgotten in the ensuing moments of pride and the excitement of uncovering hidden items. If you can look beyond the dialogue, or turn it off, there is a charming game inside with the makings of an adventurous fairy tale.
