With the original Kane & Lynch not doing so well, this one is inpired by documentary films and user-generated content. Every aspect of the game has been designed to deliver a fresh perspective to the words intensity and content.

Kane & Lynch 2 Reviews ps3
strategyinformer.com review
While it’s all pretty interesting and tactical stuff, the online Fragile Alliance version is where the best action is found. Playing against real people, you never know when someone is going to decide that they are better off without you and end your life. Fortunately, when a player dies they spawn as a cop, allowing them to get their revenge. It’s genuinely exciting gaming, and a vast improvement over the first game’s version.

It’s probably more worth it because there’s little in the way of competition right now, so it was good timing. But play it now; don’t wait. By October, there will be better options out there.

digitalchumps.com review
Most scenes boil down to ‘corridor-fights’ in which Kane and Lynch enter a room or area on one end and enemies pour into the area on the other. It’s up to you to take cover and peck away at the enemies, steadily moving closer and closer to the next area. At times I felt like I was playing whack-a-mole with the enemy AI as I would take aim from behind cover and wait for them to pop their head up. It doesn’t always happen like that, but I couldn’t help but notice it. This isn’t the kind of game where you will charge at the enemy and attempt some kind of melee strike. You have to stick to cover and slowly move forward as the situation permits. Stealth, like in the first game, is somewhat available, but it rarely works out. If you can manage to sneak up on someone, you can grab them and make them a human shield.

A recommendation for Dog Days isn’t hard, though it is filled with qualifications. If the story and characters haven’t caught your interest yet, or if you’re just not interested in crime thrillers, then there’s probably not going to be enough in Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days to keep you playing.

The game might not win any awards but I give props to IO Interactive in taking time in improving Dog Days. With the small flaws set aside, Kane & Lynch 2 is a decent title.

The deranged duo’s return is worth experiencing and is far more accomplished than its predecessor, but the gameplay on offer still doesn’t match the quality of the characters IO has created.

While the multiplayer and Arcade Mode are extremely fun, I just don’t feel that they make the package worth it.

While Dog Days is mostly about Kane and Lynch thudding their way through one crowded firefight after another, it takes a few interesting detours, although these are rare. Twice, you’ll briefly fight alongside a squad of allies who soak up bullets for you. Another time, you’ll need to sneak around naked, unarmed and bleeding to rescue Kane and find a gun. And at one point, you’ll snipe masked bad guys who are trying to snatch Lynch’s girlfriend off a balcony, one of the few points at which the duo fight to protect anyone but themselves.

darkzero.co.uk review
These response issues resurface periodically, which is a shame; as apart from there still existing the problems that apparently dogged the series debut, the game is not without its charms. Graphically it is suitably murky and evocative, if at times a little rough round the edges (literally) and disorientating. The voice acting, music and sound effects are generally immersive and well realised; personally I get bored very quickly with the flimsy scripts that make up police/gangster games but this manages to both intrigue and affect the player.

Kane and Lynch return, once again defining mediocrity in all its forms. Intriguing multiplayer modes and a tense story are not enough to combat the games loose shooting mechanics, sloppy cover system and clichéd script.

The trouble with this top-flight presentation is that it never feels like it’s supporting or heightening a superior action experience, it feels like it’s trying to mask a hollow one.

There is only one thing that Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days succeeds at. It makes Kane & Lynch: Dead Men look really, really good.
