Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is as complete a package as you could ever ask for. An exciting and charming campaign mode – a little on the short side, but no more so than Modern Warfare 2‘s, and with extra objectives for you to hunt down should you feel the need – and slick, incredibly rewarding multiplayer modes that actually bring people together instead of making them all swear at each other via the internet, and provide enough scope for you to come away from each session with your own unique war stories. Multiplayer-heavy titles can be a fickle beast, but we’re pretty sure we’ll be playing this one for quite some time to come.

Bad Company 2 is definitely a diamond with some rough edges, the singleplayer, while funny, is completely forgettable, and a host of server and connection issues have hampered the multiplayer. This however doesn’t change the fact that the game is really amazing, the destruction adds a great level of immersion and gameplay, everything feels polished, and the attention and respect the PC version has gotten has been a hit for Dice as they reported that the PC version of the game is the highest seller right now beating out the 360 and PS3. So if you’re looking for something to become your new addiction you can’t do much better then Bad Company 2.

There’s a ton of fun to be had here whether playing alone or with gamers online. The combat is fun, the characters are great, and there is a ton of gaming value shoehorned into this disk. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is a worthy sequel to the original; I’ll be excited to see where this franchise goes next.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 isn’t good. It’s so good. There’s little doubt that DICE has secured its game a spot as the best shooter of the first half 2010, hurdling the impressive MAG by a few dozen yards. The multiplayer manages to feel completely fresh in the modern era, making the dual-shotgun wielding Modern Warfare 2 look like a fantasy game by comparison. The story might not be as impressive as some hoped, failing to match the humor of the prequel, but the multiplayer goes above and beyond the call of duty, providing the best competitive gameplay in recent memory. DICE has, once again, helped redefine the online shooter, and should provide fans of the genre a plenty of fun for some time to come.

All in all, don’t let the rather generic and short single player campaign deter you from picking up Bad Company 2. The multiplayer is a fantastic gaming experience and without a doubt it gives Modern Warfare 2 a run for its money.

And that’s the magic that DICE has tapped into ever since Battlefield 1942. The core gunplay has that “DICE feeling” that I like a lot, and even when the checkpoints or the linearity or my squadmates’ inaction annoy me a bit, the snap-crack-thud of a sniper rifle or the explosion-driven collapse of a building make up for those flaws. It might only have ten maps for now, but they’re big maps that I’ll be leveling up my duder within and mining for plenty of crazy stories. Though it occasionally stumbles, there’s one thing that Bad Company 2 clearly demonstrates: DICE has graduated from the “can only do a multiplayer FPS” class and is perfectly capable of making a great all-around game.

Do you like first-person shooters? If the answer is yes, buy Battlefield: Bad Company 2. If there’s a weakness it lies in the slightly brief single-player campaign, but the brilliant, potentially Modern Warfare 2 beating multiplayer more than picks up the slack. EA might be looking at its forthcoming Medal of Honor to get a Modern Warfare sized mega hit, but Bad Company 2 deserves good things too.

There are plenty of tactical decisions to be made beyond the loadout screen, including where you spawn, which buildings you destroy, and which vehicles you pilot. ATVs, gunboats, Humvees, tanks, and helicopters all spawn on the battlefield full of deadly potential. Exactly who dies depends on your driving skills and the enemy’s demolition prowess, but there’s no question that vehicles can change the flow of battle very quickly. A quick flanking run with a Jet Ski can catch the enemy off guard, while an unmanned UAV can end a helicopter’s reign of terror before it has a chance to begi

The multiplayer portion of the game is also very scalable, allowing you to customize a match pretty much any way you want going in. You’re able to choose from a variety of different gameplay modes (including a newly revised “Gold Rush†mode simply called “Rushâ€) and maps, as well as upgrade your character with new weapons and special perks as you play through the multiplayer component, something that Call of Duty fans will be immediately familiar with and enjoy.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is the Pepsi to Modern Warfare 2’s Coke. They’ll both scratch the same itch, but not in the same way. As a singleplayer experience, Bad Company 2 is mostly forgettable, which is a disappointment considering how entertaining the first game’s campaign was. Thankfully the multiplayer features are so polished and well designed that BC2’s shortcomings won’t matter in the slightest. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 provides an alternative FPS diet of raw battle tactics in an easy-to-digest structure.

But the features that PC gamers will likely most appreciate exist off the battlefield, including dedicated server support and (at some point in the future, DICE assures) modding tools. It’s possible to control every parameter in the gameplay – you can turn on or off friendly fire, allow/disallow vehicles and much more. It’s perfect for the hardcore player who knows exactly what he’s looking for in a server, but for more casual players who simply want to hop into a game without too much effort, Bad Company 2’s multiplayer is a bit hit or miss: You may be dropped into a match on a European server, for example, automatically afflicting you with near game-breaking lag.

We have decided to give Battlefield: Bad Company 2 an above avg. score of 7.5 solely based on the single player campaign experience and the potential fun to be had in the multiplayer from what we could play on the Saudi servers. If you are living in the UAE (or in the Middle East for that matter), the PC version is not the one you want to get for your multiplayer fix. With the console versions more popular in the region, your best bet is to get either the Xbox 360 or the PS3 version where there is a (comparatively) larger community than the PC version. Of course, if you are living outside the Middle East and have an ISP that actual cares, the PC version is superior in many factors than its console counterparts and is an absolute must get.
