Swimmy Sea has been expanded with a bunch of new secret characters and locations — and today we’re going to focus on those bonus pirates, gods of the sea, and royal crustaceans.
So, what’s Swimmy Sea all about? Like all the Crossy games on iOS and Android, you move through a dangerous (and stylishly pixelated) environment, dodging hazards and collecting coins to unlock new characters. There’s a giant roster of people to play as, but the unique choices listed here can only be unlocked after completing special hidden challenges. You won’t get the King Crab, Seabeard, or Triton with coins alone.

Secret Characters Unlock Guide
[Work-in-Progress: We’ll add more new characters as they’re unlocked!]
- Seabeard
- Play with any character with the basic ocean floor tileset. The Hermit Crab and Great White appear on this tileset.
- Continue to play on this tileset until you randomly come across a sunken pirate ship. Survive until after you’ve passed by the ship — don’t hit the crow’s nest or mast or any part of the ship.
- If you’re able to navigate around the ship and continue past it, then you can die. You’ll then unlock the pirate Seabeard.
- King Crab
- Play as the Hermit Crab and collect 5 special coins with Crab-icons.
- These will appear during normal play. They can be collected during different rounds.
- Triton
- Play as the Mermaid and swim past a mauve conk shell. It can be tricky to spot — look for a shell-shaped object on the ground that’s purple with a pink streak.
- Swim over / past it. Then, after you die, you’ll unlock the god Triton. It appears relatively frequently, so a few rounds with the Mermaid and you may unlock Triton
- Krabpus
- Available with the holiday update. Play as the Santa Shark and get a score of 0.
- Very, very easy — so easy, most people won’t fail this badly. Just get hit right away without collecting any coins. Ram into the first enemy you see to unlock Krabpus.
- Swimming Legend
- This secret character can be unlocked with any Olympic 2016 update characters — the Ringed Seal, etc.
- Collect 5 Olympic rings in one round. Look for coin-like objects with a hole in the center. After getting five, you’ll unlock the Swimming Legend character.
- Flying Fish
- Play as one of the following characters; Swimgull, Rubber Duckie, The Black Swan, Blue Footed Booby, and Pelican.
- Go to the ocean surface track and get hit by a bird enemy to unlock the flying fish.
- Fisherman
- Unlock and play as the Great White, then earn a high-score during normal play.
- A high-score is your personal best, so if you want to easily unlock this character, simply delete / reinstall the app.
- After getting a high-score, die to one of the fishing lines. Any of the fishing lines will work.
- Unlock and play as the Great White, then earn a high-score during normal play.
- Fishglobe
- Available with the holiday update; play as any holiday-themed character to spot special coins shaped like snowflakes.
- Snowflakes, like coins, add one point to your score. To unlock the Fishglobe, you’ll need to collect 25 snowflakes total — it doesn’t have to be in a single run.
- iFish
- Nothing special here — open the Settings menu and tap “Credit” — exit when you’re done looking at the Credits.
- Next time you die, the iFish will unlock.
- Kraken
- To unlock the Kraken, you’ll need to unlock every regular character available in the game.
- Secret characters are not required — just the regular ones.
