How Do Touchscreens Work for Gaming?

July 11, 2016 by Tom Johnson

Touchscreens are a surprisingly large part of gaming from Nintendo stuff, to mobile gaming, and everything in between. But how do they work? Let Falcon tell you how.

The past decade has seen touchscreens go from being a mere technological novelty found on overpriced and archaic personal digital assistants to an integral component of many devices in our day-to-day life. Depending on how you like your video games, you may even play games using one on the regular. However, not everyone knows what’s happening under the hood to allow them to use that screen to throw knights at enemy castles in Clash Royale or send a snap to that fly honey from their civics class to see what she’s up to.

It’s easy to overlook the importance of touchscreens, but without them you’d be jabbing at physical buttons on your phone like some sort of animal, and a surprising amount of technological innovation and know-how goes into producing these invaluable components.

That being said, we here at Gameranx invite you join us on a technological deep dive into the specifics of what makes the touchscreens on your laptops, tablets, phones and game controllers work.
