2026 has been full of great-looking games, and there is even more coming our way! But in case you missed out on some games, we’re here to help. Looking back at July, here are just a few of our favorites that might be worth pulling from the backlog to play. With that said, don’t expect these games to be ranked in any particular order, as they can vary quite a bit in genre. Shift At Midnight
If working at a gas station at night wasn’t already tough enough, let’s add monsters to it. Players in this game are setting out to work at a gas station to earn enough money to care for their ill pet. You’ll do the usual, stock items, make an order to help spruce up the place, clean up messes, and take care of customers. However, some of these customers are actually monsters posing as humans. Be careful not to serve these beasts and try to survive the hostile monsters that decide to come in before it’s time to end your shift.
Dinoblade
Dinoblade caught attention immediately as it brought out a soulslike experience, but with dinosaurs. You’ll be equipped with a sword as you traverse the prehistoric world. It’s a wacky game as you duke it out with other dinosaurs packing their own weapons. It’s a stiff battle and an effort to prevent total annihilation. Master the skills, unlock new abilities, and strive to ensure you come out on top with your next fierce opponent.
The Alters: Last Variable
If you enjoy The Alters, July also saw the release of a DLC called Last Variable. Here it’s all about whether you decide to stay on the planet and discover more about this place and phenomenon. You’ll use a variety of clones to help manage your base, gather more resources, and attempt to survive the harsh extreme conditions on the planet. If this DLC slipped past you, then here’s another reason to give The Alters a play.
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game
It’s time to see who would win in a fight between your favorite characters from the Avatar franchise. A new fighting game pits some of your favorites from Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. Use their various abilities to duke it out and also go through a unique storyline. So get ready to chuck rocks, start a fire, and douse it with water.
Palworld
I’m sure you’re all familiar with Palworld at this point. It blew up online when it was first announced and has remained a force to be reckoned with. Most would consider this Pokémon with guns, and they are not necessarily wrong. It’s a game where you’re capturing different creatures, gathering resources, and using these newfound pals of yours to help maintain your base. There are plenty of areas to explore, characters to capture, and dungeons to clear out.
Halo Campaign Evolved
Halo has come a very long way, and this year we got to go back to where it all started. Halo Campaign Evolved is a remake of that very first installment. We’re getting a slew of quality-of-life updates to the base game along with some massive overhauls to the visuals. If you grew up loving this FPS from back in the day, this release is a treat, but beyond the overhaul of the base game, you’ll also find three additional missions set before the events of the campaign. Of course, now we’ll have to wait and see if this remake trend will continue on with Halo 2.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced
Similar to our previous entry, Assassin’s Creed Resynced is another game remake. If you enjoyed Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, this offers an updated version of that game on modern platforms. You’re taking on the role of a pirate turned Assassin. It’s just another chapter in the long-running war between the Assassins and Templars, but there’s a reason why so many enjoyed the original game. Players will take on the golden age of piracy as they embark on their ship to the grand sea in search of treasure and battles against other pirates or warships. With overhauls not only in the visuals but also in gameplay mechanics, now is the perfect time to either enjoy this installment whether you played the original or if it’s your first time experiencing this game.
Doom: Dark Ages – Revelations
It seems that Hell just never takes a hint, as once again the Doom Slayer is back in action. It’s time to deal out a new fury of attacks against the demons that come wreaking havoc on humanity. As the name suggests, this is a DLC expansion from the Doom: Dark Ages video game. We’re getting new storyline content here to enjoy. However, going one step beyond that is a brand-new weapon the Doom Slayer will have at his disposal. Players will be able to use the Chain Spear not only to deal damage against the enemy but also to act as a grapple to eliminate the gap between you and your foe.
Splatoon Raiders
Splatoon fans received a new installment to the franchise with Splatoon Raiders this year. It’s a bit of a different take than what you might be used to from the Splatoon games. Instead of the competitive multiplayer action-packed experience, we’re getting a single-player adventure. You’ll find yourself exploring the land, fighting off hordes of enemies, and seeking out what treasure may be hidden away.
