With the 10th anniversary of Pokemon Go happening in the big year 2026, users everywhere are curious to know what the popular mobile game has in store. A popular choice amongst online pokemon trainers speculates a return of a fan favorite, Mewtwo. This powerful psychic clone of the far smaller pink Mew, has appeared on the mobile game numerous times since its main debut in August 2017, recurring as a legendary in raids since. But players are wanting more.
Is Mewtwo coming back in 2026?
Currently, there is no official news from Pokemon Go’s creators, NianticLabs. For now, the last appearance of Mewtwo regularly was back in 2024.
Why Do People Think Mewtwo is Coming Back?
Well if the creators of the mobile game hasn’t announced a return of the Genetic Pokemon, then why are people so convinced they might be returning? Some answers are both simple and a bit of a stretch.
- Pokemon Go 10th anniversary along with Pokemon 30th anniversary will both be occurring this year, 2026.
- Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y have been added to the game files, found by online users through data mining. This information added with the fact that Pokemon Go Tour 2026 is focusing on the Kalos Region has some users convinced of the return.
- Tiktok. Pokemon Go’s Tiktok account released a video back in early December, where Mewtwo is mentioned. The video is now edited to cut some content that included mention of Shiny Armored Mewtwo. Armored Mewtwo hasn’t been available in the game since 2020, so the mention along with the mention of shiny mewtwo has lead players to believe there is a chance the shiny version of the armored Mewtwo could be coming either in the Pokemon Go Tour, or could return for Pokemon Day in 2026.
There’s no telling whether any of these rumors hold merit, but Mewtwo lovers everywhere are holding their breath, or maybe they’re just huffing copium.
