Strategy titles tend to make gamers think first and react second. If you’re in that kind of mindset, check out these upcoming titles!
#17 Robin Hood: Sherwood Builders
How should we start this list? Well, we could talk about one of fiction’s greatest heroes and a title that will retell his legend in a new way!
Robin Hood: Sherwood Builders will feature you as the “Prince of Thieves,” which we’re sure many will enjoy outright. But the strategic twist of the title is that you’re not just fighting against the evil sheriff and his forces, but you’re attempting to build a new home for those cast out by the corrupt rulers of the nearby town. Build them a new place to live so they’ll never want for anything again!
#16 Noble’s Life: Kingdom Reborn
What does it mean to be a noble? Depending on the media you’re partaking in, it could be tons of things. But in Noble’s Life: Kingdom Reborn, you’ll have the chance to play as a noble at the lowest point in his life.
Specifically, the crown jewel of your lands has been destroyed. It’s up to you to rally your loyal subjects and rebuild what was lost. But how will you do that? What style or strategy will you use to reclaim what was stolen from you? That is your decision to make, and yours alone.
How you go about your journey will shape everything around you. So be sure you’re comfortable with what you do.
#15 Outpost: Infinity Siege
Sometimes, strategy games are a bit more “straightforward” than some would have you believe. For example, in Outpost: Infinity Siege, there is a ton of strategy elements to the game, but they’re also of the kind that’s about becoming more powerful through weaponry than anything else.
In the game, you’ll get a mobile outpost that you’ll construct to take on all foes that you come across. Use the platform to travel the world, get more resources to increase your strength, and wipe out everything that dares challenge you! Just how big and powerful will your outpost be when you’re done with it? Jump in and find out!
#14 Empire of the Ants
Believe it or not, Empire of the Ants is based on a hit book. Showing that inspiration for video games can come from anywhere.
Just like the book, you’ll be a singular ant who attempts to guide the rest of its colony to a “promised land.” But to do so, you’ll have to trek across the wilds of the world and take on challenges as they come. A beautiful photorealistic world awaits you as you attempt to work your way through the harsh and danger-filled terrain to see where your new home can be.
As the days wax on, the seasons will change, and you’ll need to adapt to every scenario!
#13 MENACE
The best-laid plans of mice and men tend to fail when certain events shake things up. In MENACE, you’ll be a marine of the republic who was tasked with going to some of the “wild worlds” and trying to bring them into the care of your party.
But no sooner do you arrive than bad things start happening. A new threat emerges, cuts off your support from the “core worlds,” and now, you have to rally the rowdy bunch of pirates, mercs, and smugglers to try and fight back.
Use what you can, and don’t be afraid to play dirty to survive! Remember, you’re all that stands between the universe and a terrible evil.
#12 Ratten Reich
Here’s a title that will definitely tilt your head as you attempt to understand who came up with this idea.
Ratten Reich is a World War II-esque title with one huge twist: you’re playing as a bunch of animals! Yep, you’ll be roaches, rats, lizards, and more, all of whom are using flags that you might be familiar with to represent your kind.
No matter who you choose in the story or other modes, you’ll attempt to conquer the other factions. Customize your weapons, armor, and vehicles to be best outfitted for war and ensure that your group survives. Can you change the tide of this never-ending war?
#11 Roman Empire Wars
Rome as a Republic or Empire was no stranger to war, and with Roman Empire Wars, you’ll be the one leading the legions to try and protect your realm. You are the newest emperor of the mighty empire, and there are enemies at the gate.
But these aren’t just barbarians. They are warriors of all types, and they want your head on a pike. So, build up your Roman Legions and ensure that your tactics and forces are superior in every way. Will you be able to continue Rome’s reign? Or will the inevitable fall come while you are on the throne?
#10 Barkhan
Inevitably, when we reach for the stars and discover new worlds to try and colonize and harvest for resources, other races will attempt the same thing. In Barkhan, three factions have come to a singular world with the goal of claiming all it has for themselves.
The question you’ll face is which faction to choose and how you’ll use them to win. One clan has vehicles of incredible power that can blast away foes. The second uses speedy and precise armaments to deal damage exactly how they want. And the final one has such advanced technology that they can take you down before you realize they’re there!
So, which will you choose?
#9 ZEPHON
Oh, look! It’s a game where you have to help humanity survive a post-apocalyptic future that monsters sprouted up from! We totally haven’t heard of something like that before…
Anyway, in ZEPHON, an alien invasion mixed with nuclear destruction led to humanity almost being wiped out. When they did emerge from their hiding places, nothing was like before, and the fight for survival began!
The alien menace is still on the planet, and the mutated remains of the world are ready to kill you! So rise up and rally humanity so that this isn’t your last stand! Take back what’s left of the world so you can live in it!
#8 HeatWave
Okay, how about a near-post-apocalyptic game that you can totally understand? In HeatWave, you’ll be in Alaska, and global warming has pretty much destroyed the planet. Yes, global warming is real; don’t fight it.
Due to various events, Alaska has become “unprotected” by the mainland United States, and some enemy nations are coming to take it for themselves! Obviously, you don’t want that!
So, the people of the state rise up and attempt to fight back! Control your guerrilla groups wisely and take out any foes you face! Will you be able to repel them? Or will the numbers disadvantage be your undoing?
#7 Ara: History Untold
History is written by the victors, and it’s time for you to be one of those victors! In Ara: History Untold, you’ll pick a nation and attempt to lead them across history so that you can make them the greatest nation in the world!
Plus, like the real leaders of the world, you’ll determine your nation’s actions based solely on your whims. They can be as peaceful or aggressive as you desire. It’s your nation; run it how YOU want it to be run.
Just remember, not everyone will like your reign and attempt to take you down. Build up your armies and fight them off!
#6 Headquarters: World War II
World War II has been a “haven” for video game settings because there are so many things to discuss and deal with in it. In Headquarters: World War II, you’ll take part in the Normandy invasion that helped change the entire tide of the war.
The twist is you’ll be seeing it from three different sides. You can pick the United States, the United Kingdom, or Germany and go through three different campaigns full of missions to showcase how each side handled the invasion.
Build up your forces and use them wisely to take on or hold off enemy forces. The future of the world is in your hands. Headquarters: World War II
#5 Millennia
As we’ve already shown you, games that deal with “making nations” and riding “throughout the ages of history” are quite popular, and Millennia is no different. The twist this time is that you’ll take part in the earliest periods of human history.
You’ll start at the birth of civilization and then start to shape your nation across 10,000 years of history! That would be impressive enough, but the game keeps throwing you curve balls by highlighting how your choices will change the future and how it looks. That means each playthrough in the game can be different depending on how you handle things! Think you’re up for that?
#4 ASCENT OF ASHES
In a world where dangers are everywhere, you need to be mindful of all that’s around you and know how to protect yourself and others from harm. In ASCENT OF ASHES, that will be your task. You’ll venture out into the world to get supplies and resources that can be brought back to your base so you can build it up and take out forces that try to destroy what you have.
But you’re not alone! Protect your fellow survivors to ensure that they make it to the next day and the one after that! The world may be ruined, but there are still reasons to fight!
#3 Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes
Here’s a game that has been talked about since 2020, when it hit Kickstarter and took over like a bolt from the blue. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is a deep RPG title where you’ll take part in a war for a realm that goes far beyond anything that its main characters could’ve imagined.
As the title says, you’ll have the option of teaming up with over a hundred heroes! Each is unique and has its own story to tell. That means you’ll need to be smart about who you choose, who comes with you into battle, and how you’ll shape your team to take on all threats!
Do you have what it takes to save this world?
#2 Sid Meier’s Civilization VII
On the one hand, we know very little about Sid Meier’s Civilization VII. It was literally announced on a forum board for the game, and there weren’t any trailers or teasers about what the game would look like or play like.
On the other hand, that doesn’t really matter. Why? Because for 20+ years, this franchise has been one of the best worldbuilding titles mixed with strategy ever. While it naturally had its highs and lows, the game reinvented itself once again with its 6th entry and blew people away with how great it was. So now imagine how far they’ll go for the 7th entry.
#1 Persona 3 Reload
Didn’t see that coming? Oh wait, that’s the fifth entry’s line. Never mind!
Jokes aside, Persona 3 Reload is the next big release from Atlus, and they’ve slowly been dropping teases about how good the full-on remake is. They have improved graphics, a battle system that resembles the popular 5th entry, and a new voice cast to bring the characters to life in fun ways!
Plus, the story of the original game is intact and ‘streamlined’ in some ways so that no matter how old or new you are to the franchise, you’ll be just fine playing it! So, definitely get the title when it arrives!
