Fallout 4 Guide: The ABCs Of Unique Weapons–How To Get Them All

Unique weapons are my biggest passion in the Fallout series. While the experience has been somewhat cheapened in Fallout 4 with the addition of Legendary drops, I still love tracking down each and every rare item, enjoying the special boosts they bring to my weapons inventory.

With some careful planning you can retrieve all the unique guns and melee weapons in Fallout 4. However, to do so you need to side with the Institute for the end game, so keep that in mind before you get your hearat set on earning them all. Also take note that some share effects with Legendary modifier prefixes, and sometimes with each other; for instance the AX90 Fury and Old Faithful both do double damage if the combat target is at full health.

2076 World Series Baseball Bat

Small chance to send targets flying.

This Baseball bat is part of the secret treasure hidden under Jamaica Plain. To begin that quest, head over to the church near your Jamaica Plain settlement and root around for clues. Our guide can help you with the rest.

Alien Blaster Pistol

This now-classic Fallout weapon can be found east of the Oberland Station settlement in a random encounter, either by hearing an aircraft crash overhead and finding the wreckage, or tuning into a distress signal on your radio after finding a nearby radio tower. Sadly, the item is no longer as strong as it was during Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

Sets target on fire for 15 points of damage.

This minigun is rewarded at the end of The Big Dig, but only if you side with Hancock. To begin this mission head to Goodneighbor and speak with Daisy about needing work. She’ll direct you to Bobbi No-Nose to get you started.

AX90 Fury

Does double damage if the target is at full health.

This Plasma rifle can be purchased from Proctor Teagan once access to The Prydwen is gained.

Big Boy

Shoots an additional projectile.

This Fat Man is sold by Arturo in Diamond City Market and shoots two Mini Nukes, while only spending one. With the Experimental MIRV mod, it can shoot a whopping twelve Mini Nukes for the price of one, making this by far the most powerful weapon in the game. It is also one of the most expensive, at 14000 caps.

Big Jim

20% chance to cripple the target’s leg.

This Pipe wrench can be found in a sewer beneath Walden Pond.

This weapon, literally a cannon-gun that shoots cannonballs at your opponents, is a reward from Captain Ironworks for completing a series of fetch quests in the mission Last Voyage of the U.S.S. Constitution. To begin that quest, wander near the location of the U.S.S. Constitution and speak to a robot there. Our guide will help walk you through it.

This weapon is not unlike an ice-flamer; it shoots projectiles that will freeze your opponents. It is located in a locked case in the Overseer’s Office in Vault 111. For a walkthrough, check out our guide.

Death From Above

Provides 75% faster movement while aiming.

Good Intentions

Critical hits cause the target to frenzy.

There are conflicting reports on how to obtain this Laser Pistol. While the Fallout Wikia says it is carried by a Gunner leader named Clint in a camp on the elevated freeway, personally I found it on the body of an unnamed Gunnar I’d killed at their police station base in the southeast.

Grognak’s Axe

Hits cause more stagger, and targets take bleed damage.

This melee weapon can be found where the Grognak the Barbarian TV show was being filmed before the Great War, Hubris Comics. It is in an Advanced locked case on the left, behind the front desk.

Junk Jet

This unique gun, which as the name suggests uses “junk” for ammunition as opposed to bullets, is located in ArcJet Systems rocket control room. This Machete can be found inside Dunwich Borers. You must enter the door at the bottom of the excavation site, then make your way to the bottom of the quarry. Kremvh’s Tooth will be at the bottom of a pool, on an altar in a side chamber. Check out our guide to get a walkthrough.

Le Fusil Terribles

25% damage and limb damage, but has more recoil.

This Combat Shotgun is available in Libertalia. You will need to arm yourself well before heading over there, as the location is guarded heavily by strong Raiders. There’s a small platform, triggered by a red button, that will ferry you over to a large structure where the leader of the Raiders resides. At the top of the building is the Captain’s Cabin, where you will find the gun on a table. The entrance is a trap door in the ceiling.

Lorenzo’s Artifact

This Gamma gun, which features a superior staggering effect, is a reward for completing the Cabot House series of missions by siding with Jack Cabot. This Hunting rifle, likely a reference to the movie Tremors, is rewarded for completing an unmarked side quest to restart a series of machine gun turrets owned by a local volunteer militia man, Barney Rook. You can find his home and speak with him in Salem. If killed, you can loot the gun’s original, Reba, from his body.

This Ripper can be purchased from a Level 4 workshop merchant.

You can begin the quest by following a distress signal in one of three locations, National Guard Training Yard, Revere Satellite Array, or Relay Tower 0MC-810. The weapon is given to you by Brandis aboard the Prydwen after you successfully pass three speech checks and convince him to rejoin the Brotherhood of Steel.

The Gainer

Sets targets on fire for 15 points of damage.

To get this .44 pistol, you will need to root around in an unmarked location and solve a puzzle. Fast travel to Hub City Auto Wreckers and head south to reach Vitale Pumphouse. Check your local map for the entrance. Next to a locked door is an input mechanism with a combination lock. The wall next to it reads 0-4-5-1. The number 0 is not available on the device, so use 10 instead. 10-4-5-1. Use that to unlock the door and retrieve the weapon.
