Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl: How to Catch Cresselia

March 16, 2022 by Peter Hunt Szpytek

Time to put on the ol’ running shoes.

Cresselia has been available to be caught in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl since November, however, it’s a Pokemon that some might have missed until now. With its capture being necessary to encounter Darkrai which is coming in April, more players now than ever before are looking for a way to snag the psychic-type.

Even though it might not be allowed in some circles of competitive play, Cresselia is a pretty solid Pokemon that players should consider grabbing regardless of if they’re interested in picking up Darkrai. Because so many of the requirements for catching Cresselia cross over with the rest of the legendary Pokemon available in BDSP like Shaymin and Arceus, it’s worth to spend the extra time to catch it.

How to Get Cresselia

Catching Cresselia requires the player to have been given the National Pokedex. Essentially, the player will need to have encountered one of every Pokemon in the game. To do this, it’s not a bad idea to simply complete the main objective of beating the Elite 4 as going through the main path of BDSP should introduce a good majority of the creatures featured.

Even though each edition of the game features either Palkia or Dialga, the player can still get the other’s Pokedex entry by talking to Cynthia’s Grandmother inside Celestic Town. She’ll fill the player in on the missing legendary and then they can report back to Professor Rowan to get the National Dex.

With the new Dex in hand, head to Canalave City and look for the docks. Directly to the north of them, the player should see a house and enter it. Inside, talk to the boy and his mother, then go back outside and talk to the sailor on the dock.

The sailor will take the player to Fullmoon Island where they’ll meet Cresselia. Unfortunately, Cresselia promptly teleports away, and the player will need to use the Map Marking app on the Poketch to find it. To get the app, head to Jubilife City and speak to the President of the Poketch company.

After that, the player is free to start pursuing Cresselia. The Pokemon behaves just like any other wandering legendary so after a little bit of running around, the player should be able to snag Cresselia with little trouble.
