ELEX 2: What Abilities To Unlock First

March 8, 2022 by Peter Hunt Szpytek

Where to even begin?

ELEX 2 takes a lot of queues from classic RPGs while also taking inspiration from more contemporary releases in the genre. One aspect of the game that RPG fans will get a lot out of, however, is its in-depth skill tree and attribute system. Unfortunately for newcomers, ELEX 2 doesn’t do a lot in terms of tutorials for its leveling system.

Because there are so many options to choose from, players might end up feeling a little overwhelmed with what to pick first. While there aren’t necessarily any bad picks to start, there are certainly some skills that should be prioritized to optimize ELEX 2‘s experience.

ELEX 2 Starting Abilities

Hands down, the best ability to grab as soon as possible is Attribute+. The ability gives the player additional Attribute points for each level earned meaning that leveling up has far better rewards each time it happens. This will put players in a much better place early on as many weapons and items require Attribute points to use that Attribute+ can give.

Additionally, Melee Weapon Specialist and Ranged Weapon Specialist are great grabs early on as they both reduce the number of Attribute points required to wield weapons in each category. This opens the door for the player to use higher-level weapons without needing to put as much time into grinding experience.

It’s not a bad idea to allocate some Ability points into the Jetpack tree. While it might not seem to be essential in the early parts of the game, ELEX 2‘s jetpack is a necessary tool if the player truly wants to explore the world and find secrets within it. Essentially, there’s no bad skill to choose in the Jetpack tree, but it’s important to note that most do require the player to have level 25 intelligence to unlock.

One Crafting skill is huge for anyone looking to play the game using a long-ranged build: Create Ammunition. Although ammo isn’t exactly in short supply towards the middle and end of the game, in the early hours players need to be conservative with their bullets and arrows. Being able to simply craft ranged ammo takes a lot of stress out of looting as players can create their own and not rely on the drops throughout the world.
