Vampire Survivors: How to Unlock Thunder Loop

February 14, 2022 by Peter Hunt Szpytek

You’ve been…thunderstruck.

The best part about the fact that Vampire Survivors is in early access is that there’s a seemingly constant stream of new content coming to the game. From new trophies to items to characters, there always seems to be something new for players to discover when they revisit the game week to week. The most recent 0.2.12 update was relatively small in terms of new content; however, it brought with it a new weapon that players are anxious to get their hands on: the Thunder Loop.

The Thunder Loop is the Evolved Weapon form of the Thunder Ring, a weapon that randomly strikes various enemies across the map. While its inconsistencies make it a challenging weapon to wield in the early rounds of a run in Vampire Survivors, by the time major hordes start rushing the player, the Thunder Ring is extremely useful for crowd control and thinning.

As it continues to be leveled up, the Thunder Ring gets better and better, dealing more damage in a wider area and attacking more enemies, but up until this point, there hasn’t been an Evolved Weapon form for it that elevates it to the next level. Luckily, the 0.2.12 update brought with it the Thunder Loop which gives players even more incentive to level up the Thunder Ring, making it even more viable for the giant hordes that populate the last several minutes of a successful run.

How to Get the Thunder Loop

Upgrading the Thunder Ring into the Thunder Loop is pretty straightforward. Like the rest of the Evolved Weapons in Vampire Survivors, the player needs to upgrade the Thunder Ring to Level 8 in a single run. Because the weapons gained from leveling up are random, if the player is looking to upgrade the Thunder Ring as fast as they can, it’s not a bad idea to pick Porta as their starting character as they begin the game with the weapon.

All Evolved Weapons require that the player also pick up a passive support item while upgrading to Level 8 (except for the Vandalier) and the Thunder Loop is no different. Players will need to grab the Duplicator, an item that increases the number of projectiles fired by all weapons. Unlocking the Duplicator requires the player to have gotten the Magic Wand to Level 7 in a single run.

Once the Thunder Loop is leveled accordingly and the player has the Duplicator in their inventory, all they’ll need to do is kill a boss monster and open the chests that they drop. Bosses start spawning at the 10-minute mark, but if the player doesn’t have the proper items by the time they first spawn, they’ll be able to get the Thunder Loop by killing other bosses later in the run.
