10 Most Absurdly Powerful Magic Spells In Video Games

March 16, 2021 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Break your favorite video games in two with these ridiculously OP magic spells.

Dark Fog Hex [Dark Souls 2]

The Dark Fog Hex was a bugged spell that just eradicated everyone in Dark Souls 2 PVP. Dark Fog is a spell that spurts out a gas cloud of poison — normally, it isn’t that frightening. But due to a bug, if players equipped the Bat Staff, their poison effectiveness would increase exponentially. A single blast of the Dark Fog would lead to an insane poison build up that kills within minutes.

This way-too-powerful move was removed in recent versions of the game for obvious reasons. Once a player was poisoned, they’d have to stop an eat a poison cure immediately or they’d take fatal damage. You can’t move when you’re healing, and poison fog can’t be blocked. If you’re caught by the Dark Fog, you’re already dead.

Calculator + Holy [Final Fantasy Tactics]

The Calculator is one of the most broken jobs in Final Fantasy Tactics. It takes awhile to unlock these magical weirdos, and most players are probably going to avoid them because they’re just so weird. Calculators can’t learn their own magic attacks — instead, they just cast magic in a unique way. Instead of spending MP or targeting areas, they target the entire battlefield.

By selecting a category (level, height of tile, EXP, etc) then selecting a number (multiples of 3/4/5, prime numbers) you’ll target everyone on the field of battle, including allies. It’s a huge drawback, but there are armor sets that heal you from Holy damage. Equip your units with Holy-negating armor, and you’re free to nuke the entire playing field with Holy spells. Killing everything and healing yourself.
