The Best Upcoming Single-Player Video Games of 2019

August 14, 2019 by Dennis Patrick

Get ready to sit back and enjoy some of these upcoming video games.

Code Vein
  • Developer: Bandai Namco Studios
  • Publisher: Bandai Namco Entertainment
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XO
  • Release: 2019

Code Vein is an upcoming title being developed by Shift, which you may know from their past works such as the God Eater franchise. Since its announcement, little information was given out in regards to Code Vein, although, thanks to the Tokyo Game Show, a new narrative trailer was officially unveiled.

This is an action role-playing video game that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world that is flooded with vampires. It seems that the world’s blood supply is running thin and as a result, there’s become a division between vampires.

Our protagonist is a rookie who must fight against the Queen and the corrupted bloodthirsty vampires that gave their allegiance to this seemingly unstoppable force. Being an action role-playing video game, there’s more freedom in how players attack their opponents, but the developers have opted to run with a Dark Souls style approach.

Death Stranding
  • Developer: Kojima Productions
  • Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
  • Platforms: PS4
  • Release: TBA

Death Stranding has a lot riding on it to help with the hype. You have the rocky relationship split between famed developer Hideo Kojima and Konami. Prior to the split was the release of the latest Metal Gear Solid game, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain along with the announcement of Silent Hills. The latter of the two was quickly canceled shortly before Kojima took his leave from the Konami company and that sparked quite a bit of outrage on its own.

This split has left gamers curious as to what Hideo Kojima would do next as rumors started to flood of his leave from video game development and the start of directing films. That soon ended with the announcement of Hideo Kojima opening up his own video game development studio known as Kojima Productions with the first title being Death Stranding.

With all that into consideration, hype quickly built up surrounding this upcoming title, though very little information was unveiled. Instead, we’re given trailer footage showing a world in which creatures kidnap humans after being tracked by sound. Likewise, it seems that our main character is some sort of a deliveryman who is sent out with precious cargo in a hostile world.

Days Gone
  • Developer: SIE Bend Studio
  • Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
  • Platforms: PS4
  • Release: 2019

Days Gone was originally slated to launch in 2018 but has since been delayed. Developed by SIE Bend Studio, this video game title is set in a post-apocalyptic world where much of humanity has been turned into zombie-like creatures.

Players take control of Deacon St. John who was a former bounty hunter, but now must use his combat and tracking skills in order to survive this new hostile world. Two years have passed since the world became corrupted and our protagonist has taken accustomed to living life on the go, drifting from one makeshift town to another.

Devil May Cry 5
  • Developer: Capcom
  • Publisher: Capcom
  • Platforms: PC, XBO, PS4
  • Release: 2019

During E3 2018, Capcom revealed that a new installment to the Devil May Cry franchise will be coming out in 2019. Devil May Cry 5 will take place a few years after Devil May Cry 4 where Nero will once again have to fight off against a new demon invasion. Combat will be fluid and fast-paced much like what the series is known for. As for the narrative, we know that the game will feature both Nero and Dante when the duo both end up crossing paths through the latest demonic invasion as they attempt to clear the area.

Doom Eternal
  • Developer: id Software
  • Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
  • Release: 2019

After the reboot of Doom, it seems that id Software and Bethesda Softworks are making a brand new installment. The video game will follow the events of the first title where it seems that Hell has arrived on Earth. Doom Guy will once again have to blast away countless demons in order to save humanity from the brink of destruction. Gameplay has shown the protagonist fighting off a slew of demonic monsters that have ran rampant across the city. There doesn’t seem to be really any significant change to the gameplay mechanics from the Doom reboot so we fully expect the same over-the-top action-packed and intense quality of gameplay to show up for the sequel.
