Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey – How To Recruit Legendary NPCs & Find Upgrade Tablets | Adrestia Ship Guide

October 2, 2018 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Want to max-out your ship in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey? You’ll need two rare resources — legendary lieutenants and Ancient Tablets. Here’s a quick guide showing you how to find both.

The Adrestia is your trusty warship in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, and one of the best ways to upgrade is by crewing your vessel with only the most legendary of lieutenants — or finding powerful Ancient Tablet materials. If you manage to completely crew your ship with gold-colored recruits, you’ll unlock the “Argonauts” trophy / achievement, and make mincemeat out of every single opponent on the high-seas. If you find all the Ancient Tablets, you’ll get the “Lord of the Seas” trophy / achievement. Get both, and nothing can stop your highly-enhanced Spartan ship.

The real trick is finding legendary NPCs you can even acquire. You can either complete questlines to unlock legendary leaders, or you can use non-lethal takedowns to get these best-of-the-best to join you in a mechanic you might not know much about — much less actually use to your advantage.

Ancient Tablets are a little bit different. Instead of improving your troops, Ancient Tablets are an important component for upgrading the ship itself. There are two ways to acquire those, too.

How To Recruit Legendary NPCs & Find Upgrade Tablets | Adrestia Ship Guide

To fully enhance your personal ship, the Adrestia, you’ll need to find gold-level Ancient Tablets and Legendary Lieutenants. Both are just a little tricky to find on your own.

How to Find Legendary Lieutenants

There are two ways to acquire legendary lieutenants — you can recruit certain NPCs after completing their quests, or you can defeat legendary mercenaries.

  • How To Recruit Legendary Lieutenants: Unlock the Spartan Kick ability, and use it to non-lethally defeat a legendary enemy. Scan them to see their rarity — if it’s gold, that means they’re legendary.
    • Use the Spartan Kick as a final, finishing attack to knock the enemy down to their knees.
    • While on their knees, press [L3] to recruit them.

How to Find Ancient Tablets

Ancient Tablets are special rare materials that are required to fully upgrade parts of your ship. It costs a lot of resources to upgrade, so instead of selling your weapons or armor, just break them down into resources and hang onto those resources. It makes getting those expensive ship upgrades much easier late in the game.

  • How To Find Ancient Tablets: Ancient Tablets are sold by certain Blacksmiths in the world. Visit every port and city, then check the blacksmiths on the world map to locate Ancient Tablets.
    • Ancient Tablets can be found in ruins. Only ruins will contain Ancient Tablets. Other world activities will not contain these unique drops.
