Top Upcoming Horror Video Games Of 2019

June 13, 2019 by Dennis Patrick

Some of the best upcoming horror titles launching in 2019.

Someday you’ll return
  • Developer: CBE Software
  • Publisher: CBE Software
  • Platforms: PC
  • Release: 2019

Someday You’ll Return is an upcoming psychological horror game that puts players deep into the woods in search of the protagonist’s daughter. Within the game, our protagonist has vowed to never return to these woods, but now to seek out your daughter’s safe return, you must venture into the unknown once again.

This seems to be a deep narrative journey as well which will give players plenty of mature themes to go through. As you venture deeper into the woods you’ll uncover deep dark secrets along with fatherhood concepts and past incidents.

Man of Medan
  • Developer: Supermassive Games
  • Publisher: Bandai Namco
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
  • Release: 2019

Supermassive Games has already a nice track record when it comes to horror titles as the development studio brought out an iconic hit for the PlayStation 4 in the form of Until Dawn. The video game series has received a couple spinoff titles of its own though now the developers are looking at a new trilogy of titles set to also be horror titles.

The developers are calling it The Dark Anthology with the first title being Man of Medan. So far we know that the game will feature a cast of characters that, much like Until Dawn, can all be killed. This time around players will be diving into the sea with a group of friends in search of sunken treasure but it turns out that there’s something else lurking in the depths below.

The Peterson Case
  • Developer: Quarter Circle Games
  • Publisher: Quarter Circle Games
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
  • Release: 2019

Those of you who enjoyed cult classics like the X-Files or Twin Peaks may instantly be intrigued by The Peterson Case. This is a video game that follows a detective on a case that’s been passed on from one detective to another. Set in Roswell, USA, shortly after the whole UFO incident, players set off to discover what happened to the Peterson family. This is a family that just up and vanished with no traces of what happened. Now’s your chance to dive in and seek out the truth, but you’ll want to tread lightly as more reports have been coming through the news of new otherworldly creatures appearing across the country.

This is a first-person survival horror title. Players will be exploring, keeping to the shadows and solving a series of puzzles. We know that the development team is pushing for a more atmospheric experience, so think Amnesia and the Silent Hill series as examples. Likewise, the footage shown off does give a The Vanishing of Ethan Carter style vibe with both investigation and exploration.

Layers of Fear 2
  • Developer: Bloober Team
  • Publisher: Gun Media
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
  • Release: 2019

If you enjoyed Layers of Fear then you will want to make note of its sequel set to release at some point this year. Development studio Bloober Team is keeping news regarding the game a bit undisclosed right now so don’t expect too many details at the moment. What we do know is that the game will be featuring an actor who is mad and quickly unhinging as you progress through the game, but again, the finer details have yet to be really released to the masses. We can, however, expect the same overall feel and vibe from the initial installment such as the game featuring a first-person perspective.

Developers also crafted the game to be a psychological horror title full of jump scares with a heavy narrative story to keep players exploring along with solving puzzles. The one big change we know so far about this title compared to the original is that the development team will be working with Gun Media, known for Friday the 13th: The Game, when it comes to publishing.
