After the release of 2010’s God of War III, Kratos is once again back and ready to battle any creature, god, or man that comes in his way. God of War is an upcoming soft reboot to the franchise which features Kratos in a new Norse mythology world.
A few new details have been released from E3 2017 and as such, we crafted up a quick guide to showcase everything we know about the game so far.
What’s The Story?
The story this time around is a tad bit different. Originally, the video games leading up to this release in the franchise featured Kratos fighting against Greek mythology. Instead of Greek gods, players will find that they are up against Norse mythology.
Years have passed and gamers will find that they are controlling an aging Kratos. Surviving the final battle against Zeus, Kratos is in a new Norse mythology land where creatures of all variety roam the lands.
One of the key changes that were made in God of War is that Kratos is taking on a new mentor mentality as he controls his rage and teach survival skills to his son, Atreus.
Characters
Currently, the only two characters we are really introduced to the video game are Kratos and his son Atreus. Overall, Kratos has matured and seems to have managed to control his rage in order to teach the ways of survival in such a hostile world to his son.
Atreus, on the other hand, does not seem to resemble much of Krato’s mentality. Instead, the young boy is more reserved finding it tough to put away his emotions when it comes to battle, something in particular that Kratos touches on in the latest E3 2017 trailer.
Outside of the two main protagonists of the video game, being set in Norse mythology, you can expect to see a wide range of Norse gods and creatures.
Gameplay
God of War has always featured an over-the-top brutal and gore filled gameplay. That still seems to hold true in the upcoming release. Kratos has exchanged his dual blades for a new axe and shield that still delivers a deadly attack.
Likewise, God of War is still filled with massive bosses for players to slaughter in action-packed battles. We’re eager to see new gameplay from the God of War title, but for now, you can take a look at the latest trailers released above.
Release Date & Platforms
Just as the past titles were, God of War is a Sony exclusive which means that the game will be available only on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro consoles. Unfortunately, there has been no specific launch date for the game quite yet, but Sony did note that the title is slated for an early 2018 release.
