Microsoft to Ditch Microsoft Points?

October 8, 2012 by Julie Horup

Report suggests virtual currency might be dying.

You know how you hate Microsoft Points and never know how much they're actually worth? And how about that one time you had to buy something worth 400 MS Points, but were 20 MS Points short? Well, today might be your lucky day.

The Verge reports that Windows 8 no longer uses MS Points, but instead makes users pay for content with their credit card like every other digital platform.

Apparently the Windows 8 betas allowed users to pay with MS Points, just like Xbox Live Marketplace and Zune Marketplace, but with the final version of Windows 8 all payments default to credit card transaction.

Microsoft hasn't commented on this just yet, but it could mean that they'll abandon the use of MS Points across all platforms, including Xbox 360, sooner rather than later or at least offer the possibility of paying with credit cards instead of virtual currency.
