Google Going To Use Virtual Brain Tech For Apps

October 5, 2012 by Andrew Kent

Google is at it again, and this time they’re using their virtual brain to help out apps.

Pinkydroid: What are we going to do tonight Google?

Google: Try and take over the smartphone market!

Remember that neural network that Google made to learn about cats on the internet? If not then I've got some splainin' to do Lucy. Google set out and built a network of processors and let it loose on the internet. After some time it was finally able to recognize what a cat looked like. Not the most impressive feat since you and I can recognize what a cat is, but for a computer this is a huge step.

Now that same technology is going to be used to better apps. Specifically voice recognition with the voice command application on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Siri's competitor. The gist is that Google has made the neural network smarter, so that it does't need human help to learn. This in turn will make the speech recognition software more accurate.

Other Google apps will eventually get the technology, but I would wager not any time soon.

This really excites me because I love how Android OS is evolving. I spent about 15 minutes playing around with the voice search and listening to the robotic woman speak back my answers to me when possible. What else could Google make her do? Help aid you with homework, give you the biography of a person in history, keep up with current events? The possibilities are endless. I am very happy to see where Google is going with this and hope they surpass iOS in every way possible.
