Android Finally Gets Tom Tom App…With A Catch

October 5, 2012 by Andrew Kent

Tom Tom is a bit behind with their new addition to the Google Play Store

Tom Tom has released their offline navigation app this week on the Google Play Store. The app has been on iOS and now Android users can bask in its glory…or lack thereof.

There are some complications and lacking features with the app. One of which is the non-existence of foursquare integration that it's iOS counterpart already has. The other major factor is that the app does not seem to work with current generation phones/tablets. The Verge has reported that they have tried the app on the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7, HTC One X, Galaxy S III, and the Galaxy Note. It's unknown as to how many more phones are incompatible with the app but eventually people will find out just which phones do and don't work. Before then, Tom Tom needs to hurry up and push out an update if they wish to stay in the good graces of their Android flavored fans.

One more thing I'd like to mention is the $38 price point of this app. Before you even think about going out and buying this app, there are other alternatives. Take for instance the Google maps app. You're only able to download a certain map tile, but it can get the job done. But if you absolutely need offline navigation then you may as well shell out $100 for a GPS and a few bucks for a stand so you don't have to fiddle with your phone.
