Nintendo Claims Dead Pixels On Switch Units Are Not Defects

March 7, 2017 by Dennis Patrick

Dead pixels are NOT considered defects according to Nintendo.

Nintendo recently launched their latest console which is a new portable hybrid known as the Nintendo Switch. One of the main selling points to the console for gamers is mobile gaming, allowing players to take their console on-the-go to enjoy the latest video game releases.

Since the console released, we’ve heard a few reports online stating that the Joy-Cons tend to disconnect from the console due to other hardware located around the system. Likewise, we recently reported of one gamer who found his Nintendo Switch completely died on him with a blue screen of death after playing the game for a mere hour.

One of the more apparent problems to have surfaced online regarding the console is dead pixels. It’s a common issue with early LCD displays, though years later the issue has become slightly rare. Especially if the display is new as this is the case for the Nintendo Switch.

While gamers are starting to complain that their Nintendo Switch is already displaying a number of distracting dead pixels Nintendo is not lending any help. Nintendo has stated that dead pixels are characteristics of LCD screens and are normal. This ultimately means that this is not something Nintendo considers a defect.

We’re sure this comes as a big bummer, but years ago gamers were faced with a similar problem with the Nintendo DS. Originally, Nintendo held onto their stance of not considering dead pixels a defect but after several complaints, the company offered replacements if the system was still under the year warranty.

Perhaps Nintendo will also reconsider after complaints continue to pop up for the Switch though only time will tell. For now, it looks like you may be forced into using your Switch despite dead pixels on the display.
