The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild | Review Score Roundup

March 4, 2017 by Katrina Filippidis

Has Nintendo achieved perfection?

As the highly anticipated next iteration in The Legend of Zelda franchise, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild certainly had a lot riding on its shoulders. Nintendo has always been an innovator, revolutionising the definition of gaming as we know it, and using The Legend of Zelda as its guinea pig in particular. From its foray into 3D graphics and Z-targeting, to using the Wiimote as a sword, and enabling us to transform Link into a 2D echo of his actual self in A Link Between Worlds, Nintendo has dared to break convention, often with great success. But when Producer Eiji Aounuma promised fans that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild would have an open-world twist two years ago, it wasn’t enough to properly express the sheer magnitude of its freedom.

Fast forward to March, 2017. The Nintendo Switch has finally released, and all the reviews are pouring in for Breath of the Wild. Although no game is immune to critique, the general feeling isn’t unlike when Romanian former gymnast Nadia Comăneci scored a perfect 10 for her routine on the uneven bars.
