“We made three games with Ezio because people loved Ezio” says Ubisoft

September 24, 2012 by Jeanine Celestin-Greer

If AC3 does well, might Connor get more sequels?

Whether or not it's actually true, AC3 associate producer Julien Laferrière said, speaking to Eurogamer: "We made three games with Ezio because people loved Ezio."

And Ubisoft is hoping you'll love new Assassin's Creed III hero Connor as well.

"We're going to see how players react to the guy [Connor] for sure. You'll get to experience portions of his life, you'll see why he becomes an assassin and what his motivations are."

This comes after Ubisoft said they'd make us like Desmond. But if you like Connor, does that mean he'll get the Ezio treatment?

"Assassin's Creed 3 is the product of three years of development, but [because of that] we also now have a new engine, AnvilNext. It's tough to answer that without compromising anything. I can't really answer that question because there's so many implications."

I don't think anyone can disagree that many players were tired of Assassin's Creed and Ezio by the time Revelations came out. The games came out in quick succession, while the main Ubisoft team developed Assassin's Creed III. But Ubisoft seems to be starting to realize that players prefer longer development time.

"For Assassin's Creed 3 we got three years, and I think it shows," Laferrière said.

"I understand the worries of the fans, but we share the same world. We wouldn't want to let down the franchise and release crappy games."
