Elder Scrolls Online, remember that over-hyped game? When it released fans of the elder scrolls series and outsiders were generally disappointed – especially the critics. But by the looks of it, Zenimax seemed to have turned their bad luck around. They recently announced that they have hit the 8.5 million player mark.
Matt Firor, game director at ZeniMax, told MMORPG.com at a press event for the game that the game has grown, selling 1.5 million copies since last year’s E3. The copies are split roughly even amongst PS4, Xbox One and PC.
One would expect the 8.5 million tally as simply a count of the number of registered players, but Firor assures us that this is not the case. The count only includes sold copies of the game, which suggests that there are even more players registered in ZeniMax Online Studios’ game.
With the upcoming Morrowwind expansion, ZeniMax should see an even greater playerbase spike, especially since the expansion is slated to bring loads of content to the table.
The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind expansion will launch on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One starting June 6.
