Square Enix producer Naoki Yoshida revealed to The Sixth Axis at the Final Fantasy Fan Festival that a Nintendo Switch version of Final Fantasy 14 is still on the table.
However, the barrier for making this happen would lie in the fact that the Final Fantasy 14 community plays on PC and PS4, so in order to keep the online community together, cross-play between the Switch, PC, and PS4 would have to be implemented.
“The main limitation [is] that they absolutely don’t want to create a boxed off version of the game that can’t interact with the others. If that could be overcome then they’d be very interested in discussing a Switch port” said Yoshida.
Once cross-play between Xbox and PlayStation is allowed, it should be simple for the Switch to follow.
The Nintendo Switch will launch worldwide on March 3, 2017.
