Blizzard Assures Fans Overwatch Loot Box Drop Rate Has Not Changed

February 15, 2017 by Kris Kittie

Blizzard assures concerned fans that nothing has changed.

Some players have suspected that a change had been made to the drop rate of Overwatch’s more desirable items. However, Blizzard insists that the drop rate is still the same.

During the recent Lunar New Year event, some players found themselves without a single new skin, which made them wonder if the drop rate for rare skins had been lowered. Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan went to Blizzard’s forums to assuage everyone’s fears.

“The drop rates for Summer Games, Halloween Terror, Winter Wonderland, and Year of the Rooster are all the same,” He wrote.

However, during the Winter Wonderland event, another complaint was raised before Year of the Rooster’s drop rates. The quality of higher-rarity skins was called into question, especially since some players were upset that Mei’s new Legendary, the highest rarity level, wasn’t quite up to their expectations.

“Sorry you are disappointed with Mei’s winter skin,” Kaplan wrote, when he apologized to fans on the Overwatch forums, referencing the Mei-rry skin. “We don’t have a specific rule for what makes something Legendary or Epic. We just sort of make a gut call based off of what we think is cool. Coolness is very subjective, and based off of the community reaction it seems like our gauge was off on this one.”

It’s still unknown what Blizzard’s next big update will be and when it will hit. So far, we have seen balance changes implemented on the test servers recently, and some small wisps of news about Doomfist.
