Nintendo Switch May Support GameCube Virtual Console

February 14, 2017 by Dennis Patrick

Nintendo deputy general manager teases GameCube on the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo’s upcoming console, the Nintendo Switch, is gearing up to launch in just a few short weeks. This is a big event for Nintendo as they likely learned quite a bit from their previous console launch, the Wii U. However, in the past few weeks, we have heard plenty about what the console will lack.

This includes a number of big AAA video game titles that will not seek a port for the console such as Resident Evil 7 and Final Fantasy XV. Likewise, we know that the console will launch without streaming applications such as Netflix or an internet browser which will make using the Switch inaccessible for certain hotspots that require terms to be accepted through a web browser.

Today, we may have some slightly good news though it’s more speculation and teases done by Nintendo’s deputy general manager, Yoshiaki Koizumi. The deputy general manager spoke with a French publication, which was reported by Gamerant, that there could be a GameCube virtual console for the Nintendo Switch.

“We can not really answer with precision [about GameCube games coming to the Switch] because we have not announced anything about it at this time…what I can tell you is that we are working on things that go in that direction.”

Though Yoshiaki Koizumi does not come right out and state that the console will be launching with a GameCube virtual console, it does seem that Nintendo is working to incorporate their past console with the latest console release.

There have been plenty of highly praised and reviewed video game titles that launched on the Nintendo GameCube but have since never seen a release outside of the console. Regardless, knowing that Nintendo is still keeping tabs on the demand for a GameCube virtual console will likely please plenty of gamers who already planning on a purchase of Nintendo’s upcoming console hybrid.
