The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Has Gone Gold

February 6, 2017 by Kris Kittie

A big milestone for one of 2017’s most anticipated games.

Nintendo Today has reported the awesome news that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has gone gold. Monolith Soft developer Yasuyuki Honne revealed the news after attending a wrap-party for the game in Japan. The party was attended, of course, by the game’s developers, and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamato was also present to celebrate the title being sent off for manufacturing.

However, for those unaware, going gold does not mean that development for the game has been completed it full. It simply means the game has been sent off to be pressed and copied. As is the case with most releases these days, day one patches are still being worked on, at least until the official launch of a title.

Nintendo has yet to confirm as of now, whether or not the game will actually get a day one update. It is quite possible that they will release a fully polished game at launch. As we know, Breath of the Wild is going to be the last Wii U title. So, it makes sense that Nintendo would want to release as refined a product as possible.

Let’s not forget that Breath of the Wild weighs a hefty 13.4 GB, which is nearly half of the Switch’s hard drive capacity. So, it’s likely Nintendo won’t want to pile on any additional data onto consoles unless absolutely necessary.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is slated for a March 3rd launch on Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
