Where Minecraft Goes, So Goes Terraria

September 11, 2012 by Kris Ligman

2D mining/crafting adventure game is PSN, XBLA bound.

It’s a bit uncharitable to consistently describe Terraria as “a 2D version of Minecraft,” but such comparisons aren’t helped when your developer announces that you, like the Mojang game to which you are often compared, are headed for Xbox Live.

That was the news today from 505 Games and developer Engine Software, who announced that Terraria would be hitting not just XBLA but also the Playstation Network in early 2013. The game’s original designer, Andrew Spinks, “doesn’t appear to be directly involved” but did lend his support via the game’s press release:

I can’t say how excited I am to finally have Terraria come to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3! […] To see it come so far is a complete shock, especially after such humble beginnings. It’s always been my dream to have as many people as possible know and enjoy Terraria as much as I have, and this is another big step in that direction!

It’s been awesome working with 505 Games, and I can’t wait for everyone to see the additional features that they’ve been able to bring to this new edition of the game.

There is no information as yet about said “additional features” but we imagine such details are still forthcoming.

Terraria, in addition to being 2D and not precisely Minecraft, is a side-scrolling RPG adventure game which has sold over 1.6 million copies since being released in 2011.
