Death Stranding Is Not A Horror Game According To Hideo Kojima

February 3, 2017 by Dennis Patrick

Death Stranding is not a horror game.

There’s been a lot of mystery revolving around Hideo Kojima’s next big and first video game release under Kojima Productions, Death Stranding. Since its reveal, the trailers regarding the video game have been cryptic at best with horror type scenery, but according to Hideo Kojima in a new interview with Glixel, the upcoming video game title doesn’t fall into the horror genre.

Death Stranding might not have a full synopsis quite yet, but Hideo Kojima had no problem debunking the rumors that the video game is an upcoming horror title. The question came up by Glixel asking Hideo Kojima if the past few years between Silent Hills being cancelled and Konami has left him dwelling into a dark tone for the upcoming Death Stranding video game.

“I don’t have a dark mindset in particular. Death Stranding is not a horror game. I just wanted to make something that looks very unique, something you haven’t seen before, something with a more artistic slant to it. I’m not pursuing a dark aspect to the game.”

Apparently, the video game is likely slated towards a more action-adventure title, but again, this is speculation. We are still guessing as to what game we may be playing with the release of Death Stranding, though the narrative will be stressful on the players, leaving Hideo Kojima to add in some lighthearted moments as well.

“Humor is a very important aspect for games. You play a game for a very long time – Death Stranding is a big game, too – and you put stress on the player and you lead them through peaks and valleys. Humor is an important aspect to make sure the player can enjoy playing across these peaks and valleys. So we’ll have humor in this game too, but to a degree that it doesn’t ruin the world setting. It will be at an appropriate level.”

The upcoming Death Stranding video game is set to launch for the PlayStation 4 and it’s likely we’ll know more about the video game title during this year’s E3 event.
