Doom Co-Developer Acquired By ZeniMax

February 1, 2017 by Kris Kittie

Escalation Studios has been acquired by ZeniMax.

Bethesda parent company ZeniMax announced today that it has acquired Escalation Studios. The Dallas, Texas based studio was founded in 2007 and most recently contributed to ID Software’s well-received shooter, Doom. The studio worked on the game’s level-editor, SnapMap.

In a statement, ZeniMax said that Escalation is working on a “number of projects” for PC, console, mobile, and VR, alongside other studios owned by ZeniMax. Other ZeniMax-owned studios include Arkane, Id Software, Machine Games, Tango GameWorks, and Battlecry Studios, as well as the internal Besthesda Game Studios and ZeniMax Online Studios.

“ZeniMax Media’s studios are responsible for some of the most iconic games in our industry,” Escalation Studios co-managing director Marc Tardif said in a statement. “Becoming a part of this amazing family of developers is an honor for everyone at our studio.”

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. This is a developing story. Keep checking back with Gameranx for more updates as details unfold.

In other news about ZeniMax, the company is currently embroiled in a lawsuit against Facebook over Oculus Rift. ZeniMas is asking a jury for Facebook to pay $6 billion over claims of stealing trade secrets.
