Aonuma Reveals Players Can’t Clock Zelda: Breath of the Wild in a Week

January 30, 2017 by Katrina Filippidis

So you think you can Zelda?

The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma has been quoted saying “it’s going to be impossible” to 100% complete The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild over one week. This comes from an interview with YouTuber That One Video Gamer, also known as ‘The Completionist’, who is known for achieving 100% completion of games within a single week.

“Oh, yes, please! Take on the challenge!” Aonuma playfully dares players to 100% complete Breath of the Wild within one week

In the interview, Aonuma reveals how the team had to build Breath of the Wild‘s world from scratch, and ensure the game physics allowed objects to assume realistic sense of weight when interacting with atmospheric conditions like wind, a process which resulted in the development team blooming to 300 personnel. Director Shigeru Miyamoto expressed concern over the possibility of not completing the game in time, a prospect “even scarier than battling against Ganon”.

We’ve known for a while now that due to Breath of the Wild’s non-linear structure, it will be possible to reach the final boss of the game within the first 10-15 minutes of gameplay. However, Aonuma says players will most likely be unsuccessful since Link won’t be strong enough for the battle. Towards the end of the interview, The Completionist reveals he has been steadily completing every single Zelda title in the lead up to Breath of the Wild’s release. In response, both Aonuma and Miyamoto laugh and acknowledge that he “may be able to (100%) complete” Breath of the Wild after all.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is scheduled for a simultaneous release with the Nintendo Switch. A Wii U version will also be released.
