Valve Needs Industrial Designer To Help Create New Hardware

September 2, 2012 by Patricia Hernandez

What kind of hardware is Valve working on? Who knows, but they’re hiring.

In a job listing posted a few days ago, Valve describes an open position at the company for an industrial designer. Rumors have arisen before about how Valve might be working on a device–maybe a console–and while there's no direct confirmation here, it's still interesting to muse about. If you look at the wording, Valve is looking for someone that will help them create both new hardware and software experiences. An excerpt:

As an Industrial Designer at Valve, you will join a world-class group of electrical, mechanical, software engineers and designers who are busily defining new entertainment experiences through both hardware and software. We’re hoping to add your expertise in product design and manufacturing, ergonomics, usability, aesthetics, and surfacing to our team.

Unsurprising, given how adamant Valve is about expanding what type of company they are and what services they provide. They're definitely an ever-evolving workplace that has defined many trends in the industry. I look forward to seeing where Valve takes us next, and maybe this job listing is a small clue as to where that might be.

And if you're interested in the job? Why, take a look at the ad! Just remember that Valve doesn't quite work like most places do, eh?
