The Binding of Isaac To Be Rehauled As New Game With Co-op Mode and More

August 30, 2012 by Patricia Hernandez

This half of Team Meat sure has been busy!

Binding of Isaac, the sacrilegious zelda-meets-roguelike-meets, isn't done with us just yet according to Edmund McMillen. On the developer's Formspring, McMillen revealed that the Binding of Isaac will be seeing a release on consoles, finally–but also PC. What's the deal? Well, it's a whole rehaul.

"It will be a new game with all new graphics, music, etc it will also feature an expansion sized pack of all new content, bosses, characters enemies, items etc." McMillen explains.

This announcement comes after the release of The Wrath of the Lamb, which was an expansion that packed a ton of content for a mere couple of dollars. Meaning: Edmund sure has been giving his all on working with The Binding of Isaac!

Though judging from the language used on the Formspring, the details aren't set in stone yet–Edmund says "if/when." If it does see a release, though, we might bet on the game skipping Nintendo consoles–McMillen hasn't had much success there yet. Microsoft, unsurprisingly, seems interested.

The re-release of Isaac will also be rebalanced, and McMillen hopes that owners of the previous Isaac iterations will be able to see a slight discount on the new title. "But this isnt up to me, im not the one investing money i this remake at all so i cont call the shots," Edmund states. Even if that doesn't happen, I doubt we can expect to pay too much for the title: generally speaking, Edmund's games tend to be on the cheap side.

A surprising detail regards the artwork on the remake. "I will handle all aspects of design, character, items, story levels bosses. but another team will be doing art/animation for these new things," McMillen reveals. One can only wonder what type of art-style the new art team will go for.

The co-op, meanwhile, will be local-only. Bummer. Wish more indies did online multiplayer.
