Zynga’s Chief Creative Officer Mike Verdu has revealed that he is resigning his position from the company effective immediately to start up his own studio.
Verdu is following the likes of former Chief Operating Officer John Schappert, Erik Bethke, Alan Patmore and Jeremy Strauser recently out the door, all of whom left for various reasons following the recent decline of the company. Verdu understands that this is bad timing, but says his own reasons for leaving don’t reflect the issues concerning the company.
"I personally don't want to add to the noise level. I think this will be a good thing for me and for Zynga. I'm concerned about how this might be viewed with what else is going on, but it's not a function of anything else going on at the company, "Verdu says, insisting that Zynga’s various financial and legal troubles had nothing to do with his decision.
In fact, as it is now, Verdu and Zynga remain on good terms, since the company will be investing in Verdu’s as-yet unnamed start-up as well as publishing its games. However, Zynga’s ultimate fate remains to be seen.
