G.Skill RIPJAWS KM570 Mechanical Keyboard Review

January 17, 2017 by Kyle Foley

G.Skill has a fantastic new gaming keyboard that should fit most budgets.

When it comes to PC gaming, equipment is everything. For those still stuck using their mom’s old mouse from 2004, it might be a little hard to get play of the game in Overwatch. For others, spending hundreds of dollars on peripherals is no big deal. Now, having the best equipment doesn’t make you the best player, but it certainly can help.

Enter the G.Skill RIPJAWS KM570 MX Mechanical Gaming Keyboard. While certainly not the best keyboard on the market, it does its job quite well. Clocking in at $69.99 on Amazon, the KM570 remains on the lower end of the gaming keyboard spectrum, but it will still mean a few less trips to Taco Bell.

The real question is, is the KM570 worth settling for, or should gamers spend more to get a superior product?

I’ve spent the last few weeks using the KM570 and have had mixed feelings. The LED display is great for playing in low-light environments and it definitely looks elite, but the price point should tell you that it is definitely not the best thing you will find out there.

I found that there was barely any noticeable difference between the KM570 and a much cheaper $30 gaming keyboard I had found on Amazon. I also noticed that for everyday use (yes, some of us do more than just game all day) the keyboard became a hassle to use. The keys weigh very little and I often found myself typing fast and adding letters all over the place, a problem not found with the heavier weighted keyboards.

That said, the keyboard is not all bad. Most casual gamers are not very picky about the weight of the keys or things like that and that’s totally fine. If that’s you, the KM570 might actually be worth checking out! The LED lights have several different settings that are fun to use (although the color cannot be changed from red).

With an elite look and an average feel, the KM570 fits into the “good, but not great” category. If you are looking for a good keyboard it would be worth it to pay a little extra for something a little better, but for those with a limited budget and a desire to upgrade from their old and crappy keyboard, the KM570 is not a bad choice at all.
